Lunenburg
The town of Lunenburg (population around 2500) is situated on the South Shore of Nova Scotia, about 100km south west of Halifax. The first European settlers came to the area around the year 1750. The town eventually became a very important fishing and shipbuilding port. It was the homeport of the famous schooner Bluenose, now featured on the Canadian dime (ten-cent piece). In 1996 the town was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site by the United Nations.
