The Norwegian national women’s hockey team to Canada for training camp

Last updated: 27/08/2010 // “It’s a great opportunity and a great inspiration for us to come to Ottawa and Canada,” said Norwegian head coach Sten Gunnar Jørgensen to the Ottawa Carlton Ravens about their upcoming trip to Canada.

The Norwegian national women’s hockey team will be in Canada from Friday August 27th to Saturday September 4th for training sessions and matches with different university and college teams. Due to the volcanic eruption on Iceland and the following ash cloud, the hockey team’s plans to arrive in April were cancelled. The team will be playing matches in Quebec City and Montreal before coming to Ottawa on September 1. The team will meet Limoilou Titans for two matches, Laflèche College Dragons, Nepean Team, Ontario Hockey Academy and Ottawa Carleton Ravens on their Canadian tour.
The team didn’t qualify for the Olympic Games this year, but coming to the homeland of hockey for training sessions and matches will be a good experience before the World Championship next year. The long-term goal for the team is the Olympic Games in 2014.
The minister counselor from the Norwegian embassy in Ottawa, Jo Sletbak, will be dropping the puck together with Carleton University’s President Roseann O’Reilly Runte on September 3 before the match against Ottawa Carleton Ravens.
