In 1960 the discovery and excavations in L’Anse aux Meadows, Newfoundland started due to the meeting between Helge Ingstad of Norway and George Decker of L’Anse aux Meadows. Together they discovered the only authenticated Viking site in North America. Years of excavations and research followed. Today, 50 years later, it is time to celebrate this important historical discovery. Read more

Fribo is a Nu-Nordic group based out of Edinburgh in Great Britain. Their music can be defined as folk music which at the same time is experimental. Fribo will be playing at three Canadian festivals this summer, two in the Vancouver area and one in Calgary. Read more

From June 24 until July 4 jazz will fill the streets and different venues of Canada’s capital Ottawa. On two occasions there will be Norwegian artists playing at the festival. The female quartet Katzenjammer will be the first one playing on Monday June 28, followed by Tord Gustavsen Ensemble on Friday July 2. Read more

On May 17th the Norwegian Ambassador to Canada, Else Berit Eikeland invited friends and colleagues to the Embassy’s annual celebration of Norway’s National Day. The sun was shining as kids and grown-ups dressed in bunad (the Norwegian national costume) and gathered to eat hot dogs, listen to speeches and to sing Norwegian songs. Read more

It is now 70 years since the Battle of Norway and the Battle of Britain and on that occasion there will be an exciting air show in Muskoka on 17-18 July. These common interests are the background for the upcoming Seminar about Canada’s and Europe’s Northern Dimensions. An exhibition of the internationally renowned architecture company Snøhetta opened at Design at Riverside, a part of the Cambridge Galleries, on June 17 2010. Ambassador Eikeland was there to open the exhibit and architect and co-founder of Snøhetta, Craig Dykers, was also attending the opening night and will give a guest lecture on July 15. Read more
