The Norwegian film Limbo is the feature film debut for director Maria Sødahl. Its international premiere will be at the world competition in the 34th World Film Festival in Montreal, August 26th to September 6th this year.
Limbo is a movie about love, betrayal and desperation in a “coming of-age” story for adults. The story takes place in Trinidad 1973. Sonia (Line Verndal) travels from Norway with her two children to meet up with husband Jo (Henrik Rafaelsen), oil engineer, stationed in Trinidad. Life on the other side of the world seems like an everlasting vacation, but soon changes.
It will be the debut as a feature film director and scriptwriter for award-winning director Maria Sødahl. She has her education from The National Film School of Denmark in 1993, and has been making documentaries, TV-dramas and short films.
Sødahl will be travelling to Montreal with producers Gudny Hummelvoll and Petter Borgli and actors Line Verndal known from Norwegian drama series Himmelblå and Australian Bryan Brown (Australia, The Thorne Birds).
The World Film Festival is one of the leading film festivals in the world, and there has been great interest for Norwegian films in the past. Films like Cross my Heart and Hope to Die - Ti kniver i hjertet (Marius Holst), Kristin Lavransdatter (Liv Ullmann), I am Dina - Jeg er Dina (Ole Bornedal) and Comrade Pedersen - Gymnaslærer Pedersen (Hans Petter Moland) have all won prizes in the competition. There are 20 films in the world competition this year, and the jury consisting of seven persons, will be lead by the world-known Danish director Bille August.
