Snøhetta entered international fame when winning the world wide competition to design the new Library in Alexandria, Egypt. The Bibliotheca Alexandrina was finished in 2002 and has paved the way for many more prestigeous and internationally acclaimed projects signed by Snøhetta, such as the new Opera House in Norway, Ground Zero in New York, Ras-Al-Khaimah Gateway Project in the United Arab Emirates, designed as a cobra snake in the desert outside of Dubai, and King Abdulaziz Centre for Knowledge and Culture in Saudi-Arabia. Snøhetta is now coming to Canada with currently two projects in the making; the new theatre at Queens University in Kingston and as announced earlier this winter, co-architect of the new Student Learning Centre at Ryerson University on Yonge street, downtown Toronto.
