From the Norse sailors that encountered new pastures in Newfoundland and Labrador a thousand years ago, to the immigrants that sought a new life in the 19th and 20th centuries to the pilots that found training ground during the Second World War, our destinies have been intertwined. Over the past 75 years our two countries have also established strong cooperation at governmental level.
Today we collaborate in many areas, ranging from Arctic affairs, security and defence cooperation, creative industries, entrepreneurship and innovation, aquaculture, offshore oil and gas and research and education. Looking towards the future Canada and Norway face many of the same challenges and opportunities, not least transitioning into a low-carbon economy.
Throughout this year, which also marks the 150th anniversary of the Canadian confederation, the 75th anniversary will be central to the embassy’s activities. Building networks, sharing experiences and learning from each other, while celebrating our shared history, will continue to be at the heart of our diplomatic efforts.
